The PGA Village - Yesterday and Today
January 15, 2010

On Friday, January 22, 2010, the controversial hotel and golf resort known to most San Antonians as "PGA Village" will hold its grand opening. Developers billed the project as an environmentally sensitive alternative to 9,000 homes blanketing this vulnerable land over the aquifer recharge zone. Largely on the basis of this claim, developers secured the rights to create a quasi-governmental taxing district, a non-annexation deal with the City of San Antonio, and other financial incentives.

Houses and apartments, built inside and outside the PGA Village development, have been completed and occupied for years. But in recognition of the resort opening, AGUA has assembled a comparison of the land before development and as it appears in aerial photographs taken a little less than one year ago. Also shown are areas of future development which are planned for the land.
